Hi, I’m Skip La Cour, and I’m here to change your life—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I do that by helping you simplify the workout and eating process—so you can build muscle and lose body fat effectively without confusion, frustration, or overwhelm. These 30 lessons are designed to give you certainty, focus, and clarity on your fitness journey as a man with a busy, productive life.
If you’re an older man who’s not trying to be a competitive bodybuilder but wants to feel better, look better, and stay strong for the years ahead—this lesson is especially for you.
How Much Muscle Can You Actually Build?
A lot of men—especially as they get older—wonder:
-
“How much muscle can I really gain at my age?”
-
“Is it even worth trying?”
-
“What should I realistically expect?”
And let’s be honest… there’s a lot of misleading information out there. Influencers with great lighting and low body fat will have you believing that they’re huge. But the truth?
It’s not about massive muscle gain. It’s about lean, tight, defined muscle. That’s what makes you look amazing.
Most Men—Young and Old—Overestimate Muscle Gain
Let me give you a dose of reality.
Most men—regardless of age—greatly overestimate how much muscle they can build.
Even in my prime competitive bodybuilding days, I gained 15 pounds of muscle over 15 years. And I gave it everything I had—training, nutrition, recovery—all of it. That’s one pound a year. But guess what? That one pound each year made a massive difference.
So if you’re expecting to pack on 10 to 20 pounds of muscle in your 50s? You’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
Instead, I want you to understand and appreciate how even a few pounds of lean muscle, combined with fat loss, will completely transform the way you look and feel.

The Illusion of Size Comes from Leanness
Those influencers you see online?
They’re lean, tight, and defined. That gives them the illusion of being big. Most of them are 5’8”, 175 pounds, with maybe 16-inch arms—but the cuts and shape make them appear huge. They’re not monsters; they’re just lean and consistent.
You don’t need to be massive to look impressive.
You just need to:
-
Train consistently
-
Progressively overload the muscles
-
Eat right
-
Lose fat
-
Be patient
Why Muscle Building is Still Worth It—Even If It’s “Just” 1 Pound a Year
It may sound demoralizing to some. But if you’re putting in the work, lifting weights, eating smart, and staying consistent?
That 1 pound of muscle—on a lean, healthy body—will make you look like a different man.
And let’s not forget the biggest reason you train: if you don’t use it, you lose it. As we get older, our muscle mass declines. Strength training is non-negotiable if you want to fight aging, boost energy, and stay sharp.
Whether you’re just starting or have been at this for years, you’re doing it to build and preserve muscle, not chase an illusion.
Stop Letting the Scale Control You
Many men obsess over the scale. But when you’re doing things right—losing fat and building a little muscle—you might weigh 10-15 pounds less than you do now and look better than ever.
Forget the number on the scale. Trust the mirror. Trust your consistency. Trust the process.
Final Message and Coaching Invite
