I’m skipping the fluff today.
I’m Skip La Cour. I’m a little older than you. I live a productive, full life just like you. I’ve been where you are—and I want to help you cut through the overwhelming ocean of information coming from younger, energetic fitness influencers who mean well, but simply can’t give you the insights that only life experience can provide.
This is Lesson #15 of our 30-Day Series, and I want to help you understand what really matters, what doesn’t—and how to finally make this fitness thing a permanent part of your life.
Let’s tackle one of the biggest questions I get from men our age:
“Skip, how can I lose weight without giving up the foods I love?”
The short answer? You can.
The longer answer? You’ve got to get clear, smart, and consistent. Let me explain.
You’re Not Behind. You Were Focused On Other Things.
If you’re in your 50s or older and only now making fitness a priority, I totally respect that. You weren’t sitting around doing nothing. You were building a business, raising a family, working your tail off. You invested your time and energy into things that mattered most.
Now? You’ve earned the right to turn the spotlight on yourself. You want to feel better, look better, live longer, and reap the rewards of all that hard work.
And I’m here to help you do it the smart way.
Let’s Connect! At the end of this article, you’ll have the chance to connect with me directly, get your most pressing questions answered, and receive personalized help. Just text me your picture and fill out the questionnaire at the bottom.
You Don’t Need A Meal Plan. You Need A Mindset Shift.
The guys who get this wrong think it’s all about workouts. Or they get lost in the weeds of complex diets, timing carbs, biohacking nonsense, or listening to three-hour podcasts with five PhDs debating food quality.
Here’s what actually matters:
It’s about calorie control. Period.
Yes, food quality matters. Yes, macros matter. But if you don’t understand your total calories, you’re skipping the foundation.
It’s Not “Weight Loss.” It’s Fat Loss.
The number on the scale? That’s not your enemy. Obsessing over it is.
You don’t want to lose “weight”—you want to lose body fat. That’s a big distinction.
And guess what? You can eat 1200 calories of clean food and feel terrible… or 2500 calories of clean food and slowly lose fat while building strength and energy. Same foods. Whole different outcome.
Food = Energy. Calories = Your Control Panel.
You Can Eat The Foods You Love
Here’s the good news:
You don’t have to give up your favorite foods. You don’t need to fear pasta night or feel guilty about that Friday night burger.
Here’s how smart men do it:
✅ 75% of the time: You eat the same basic, nutritious foods. Like a uniform. No thinking, no stress.]
✅ 25% of the time: You enjoy your favorite foods — pizza, chips, whatever — as long as you stay within your calorie total for the day.
That’s it.
You’re Not “Too Old” To Get This Right
You don’t need to follow a perfect macro plan. You don’t need to time your meals. You don’t need to eat 6 times a day or fast for 18 hours.
What you need is:
-
A daily calorie target based on your goals.
-
A consistent way of eating that fits your life.
-
The right mindset to keep going when results feel slow.
You do that? You win. Period.

Take These Two Easy Steps
1. Text Me Your Picture and Introduce Yourself. Text me a picture at 925-352-4366 so I can see where your body is now. I’ll be able to help you even better. A picture does indeed tell me a “1,000 words” and we’ll be more efficient with our time when we speak on the phone. Whatever you feel comfortable with is fine. I can tell a lot even with your shirt one.
2. Fill Out The Questionnaire Below. This questionnaire will help me learn more about you. Not only will it help me learn more about you and better serve your needs, it will help you gain more clarity as to what you want and what may be stopping you from getting it.
Expect me to reach out to you very soon. I’ll contact you by text, phone call, or email.
